Why is there a double filter? Why must it come apart for cleaning?

The double filter allows for staged filtering - a slightly coarser filter in the lower (basket-shaped) filter separates the majority of the grinds from the dissolved solids.  The upper (disk-shaped) filter completes the job, with a much finer mesh than in any other press.  The result is the ultra-clean coffee, with cleanliness of a vacuum-brewer and the ease-of-operation of a french-press!

Do you sell replacement parts for the Espro Press filters?

I have the same question. Have looked everywhere and have tried unsuccessfully to reach the company re that and how to clean the filters. Fine grind is caught between the 2 filters and just can't get it clean. Have adjusted the grind but that doesn't help what is still there.

To clean trapped particles of coffee in the screen itself, fill the press about half way with hot water and add about 1/2 tsp. of espresso machine cleaner or coffee machine cleaner (not descaler). Plunge the filter in as if you are making coffee and let it soak for about ten to fifteen minutes. Rinse all the parts thoroughly before next use.

Some grinders make more fine p[articles (sometimes referred to as "dust") and that could be part of the problem. A quality burr grinder would be my recommendation. Old coffee as well as dark roasted coffee can create more of that dust as well.

Please advise what brand of espresso machine cleaner should be used. I am finding it all but impossible to press down. I use a Barataza Virtuoso burr grinder.
